Personal Umbrellas or Personal Protectors are types
of coverage that increase liability coverage on
existing policies. Homeowner's, auto, boat and any
other policies that you may have which include a
liability limit can go under an umbrella. Simply
stated, Umbrellas increase your liability
coverage where your existing policies stop.
For example, say you carry $500,000 liability
coverage on your homeowner's policy and
$250,000/$500,000 split limits of bodily injury on
your auto policy. If you cause injury to someone
with your car, for example, and they successfully
sue you for $800,000, the umbrella will kick in to
pay the extra $300,000 that exceeded your auto
coverage of $500,000.
The policy coverage
described above are in the most general terms and
are subject to the actual policy exclusions and
conditions. For specific coverage details and policy
exclusions, refer to the policy itself or contact an
Andres O'Neil & Lowe agent.
